Feb. 28—SIOUX FALLS — After winning the Class A state heavyweight championship on Saturday, Elijah Schunke held up all 10 fingers.
He was showing the number of state championships combined between himself and his two brothers, Navarro and Damian.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementElijah, now a two-time state champion, concluded his senior season with the Class A state championship with an 11-6 win over O'Gorman's Rip Siemonsma.
He said he wrestled a little sloppy after missing a headlock in the first period. But he kept his composure and battled back on the big stage.
"You have to stay calm in those situations," he said. "Keeping your composure is the most important part of this sport. You lose your head, you've got nothing left out there."
