Fans are finally getting answers on why Kaley Cuoco's character, Alice, made this decision on the season finale of Vanished.
The series takes place as Alice's boyfriend, Tom Parker, played by Sam Claflin, vanishes on a train in France, and she is on a mission to find out what he's been hiding from her. In a conversation with TV Line, Cuoco discussed whether it would be right to stay in a relationship with someone who could hide so much information from their partner.
What if the love of your life is working for [Interpol], and he really, truly, couldn't tell you anything? Do you stay with him? How do you feel?
She further elaborated, stating that in a perfect world, it would have been nice for him to let her character know what was going on. "There's a little part of me that kept feeling like, 'God, he could have told her something," Cuoco explained. "Couldn't he have done something? [Given her] some sort of look, some sort of comfort?'"
However, she ultimately felt that the decision he made to keep her in the dark had consequences for their relationship. The actor stated, "Even if he's the most amazing person in the world, and he did this for the greater good, I don't know how you trust again." She added, "I don't know if you can get that back."
Tom's dishonesty not only broke Alice's trust but also threatened her life. It also endangered Hélène (Karin Viard), who was helping her investigate the criminal organization in the finale of Vanished. Alice is captured by Saeed and has to fight him off. She kills him by stabbing him in the eyes, but that's only the beginning. She is later cornered by Alex and is able to hit him with a hammer.
Tom ends up saving the day by shooting the lead mercenary, but it's still not enough to repair the relationship. After everything that happened because of his lies and almost losing her life, Cuoco agreed with Alice's decision to end the relationship.
[Alice] almost died. She got kidnapped, she's in a country that she doesn't know. The minute you start thinking, 'Oh, could she have stayed with him?,' I start going, 'Hell no!'"
Vanished first premiered on the streamer on February 1, 2026.
