Kyle Smedley, South Bend TribuneMon, March 2, 2026 at 12:36 AM UTC·3 min readLOUISVILLE ― After the Notre Dame women's basketball beat No. 11 Louisville 65-62 Sunday, March 1 to secure the Irish a five seed in the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament, head coach Niele Ivey summed up the streaking Irish's mindset heading into tournament season better than anyone could.
“Regardless of our scenario, we’re going to take care of business,” Ivey said.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNotre Dame headed into the KFC Yum! Center as a nine seed and left it as a five, picking up its biggest win of the season in doing so. The Irish have now won five straight and seven of their last eight games.

They will face the winner of No. 12 seed Miami vs. No. 13 seed Stanford in a second-round contest at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5 in Duluth, Georgia. In the regular season, Notre Dame beat the Hurricanes 74-66 and the Cardinal 78-66.
The Irish moving up to a five seed avoided its lowest ACC standing under Ivey, which was a six seed in 2021. Despite the loss, Louisville had already clinched the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament regardless of result.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAs of the most recent NCAA Tournament bracketology update from ESPN Saturday, Feb. 27, Notre Dame rose as high as a No. 6 seed in No. 3 seed TCU’s Fort Worth host site. The Irish would play No. 11 seed North Dakota State (26-3, 15-1 Summit League) in this scenario, having never before faced the Bison.
Notably, former Irish standout Olivia Miles transferred to join TCU ahead of this season. She averages 20.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists for the 26-4 (14-3 Big 12) Horned Frogs.
TCU eliminated Notre Dame from the NCAA Tournament last season in the Sweet 16.
