Few modern anime have exploded in popularity quite like Jujutsu Kaisen. Adapted from the manga by Gege Akutami and animated by MAPPA, the series blends slick action, emotional character arcs, and horror-tinged supernatural lore. With multiple seasons and a movie now available, new viewers often wonder whether anything can be skipped.
The good news is simple. Unlike many long-running shōnen anime, Jujutsu Kaisen is extremely faithful to its source material. That means almost no traditional filler arcs. Still, recap specials and compilation films can clutter your watchlist. This guide breaks down exactly what you can skip, and what you absolutely shouldn’t.
Does Jujutsu Kaisen Actually Have Filler?
If you’re worried about padding, relax. Jujutsu Kaisen has no true filler episodes. Nearly every installment directly adapts material from the manga, moving the story forward. That already sets it apart from older anime that frequently inserted anime-original arcs while waiting for new chapters.
Season 1 adapts the manga’s opening arcs with tight pacing across 24 episodes. From Yuji Itadori swallowing Sukuna’s finger to the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event, everything connects to the bigger overarching story. There are no side quests or detours that can be safely ignored.

Naruto Shippuden Filler List: Every Episode You Can Skip
Like any long-running anime Naruto: Shippuden has many filler episodes. Here’s which episodes can be skipped without missing anything vital.
Posts 2Season 2continues that trend. The Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc and the Shibuya Incident arc are fully canon and critical to understanding the evolving conflict. Even episodes that feel reflective or character-focused pay off later in major ways.
Season 3, which adapts the Culling Game storyline, follows the same approach. Every episode builds on previous developments. If you skip canon episodes, you’ll miss key mechanics, alliances, and character shifts that define the series going forward.
The Only JJK Episodes You Can Safely Skip
While there’s no filler in the traditional sense, there are recap specials. These episodes summarize previous events and were primarily released to refresh viewers between major arcs. If you’re binge-watching, they’re entirely optional.
The first recap special arrived after Season 2's fifth episode, following the conclusion of the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc. It reviews Gojo and Geto’s past while also touching on events from Jujutsu Kaisen 0. If you’ve just watched those episodes, there’s no new content here.
The second recap special summarizes the entirety of season one. Since the first season originally aired years before season two, this refresher helped returning viewers. However, new fans watching straight through can skip it without losing any context.
Compilation films also fall into the skippable category. The Hidden Inventory compilation movie condenses episodes you’ve already seen. Similarly, the theatrical recap tied to Season 3, titled Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, packages a recap of the Shibuya arc and the first two episodes of Season 3. If you’ve watched the episodes themselves, these offer no new scenes.
What You Absolutely Should Not Skip
Gojo and Geto riding a bicycle together in the Hidden Inventory Arc
Some viewers mistakenly label certain arcs as “filler” because they initially seem disconnected from the main trio’s storyline. The biggest example is the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc, which focuses heavily on Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto’s past.
However, this arc is essential. It explains character motivations, ideological fractures, and emotional stakes that directly influence the Shibuya Incident. Later developments hinge on the memories and relationships explored there. Skipping it would severely weaken the impact of major twists.
Likewise, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is canon and critical. The film adapts the prequel manga and introduces Yuta Okkotsu, whose role becomes increasingly important in later seasons. Events in season two directly reference the movie’s outcome.
Even episodes that seem slower often introduce rules about cursed techniques, domain expansions, or the political structure of Jujutsu society. These details matter in the Culling Game arc and beyond. In Jujutsu Kaisen, setup always leads somewhere meaningful.
The Best JJK Watch Order (Without Wasting Time)

Jujutsu Kaisen Release Order
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 (24 episodes)
Jujutsu Kaisen 0
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (23 episodes)
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 (12 episodes)
If your goal is maximum efficiency, the simplest watch order is release order. Start with Season 1 (episodes 1–24). Then watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Continue with Season 2 (episodes 25–47), and then move into Season 3 (episodes 47–59).
The chronological order of Jujutsu Kaisen is slightly different but optional. It begins with season two’s first five episodes (Hidden Inventory), then the JJK 0 movie, then Season 1, and finally the rest of Season 2 and Season 3. While interesting, this approach isn’t necessary for first-time viewers.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chronological Order
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (episodes 1–5) Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc
Jujutsu Kaisen 0
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (episodes 6–23) Shibuya Incident arc
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Culling Game arc
Most importantly, skip recap specials if they appear in your streaming queue. Jump straight from “Premature Death” to “It’s Like That” in season two. Doing so keeps the momentum going and avoids retreading information you already know.

For viewers eager to continue the story in print, the anime currently adapts material up through the Culling Game. After Season 3's early episodes, the story corresponds to around chapter 164 of the manga.

This ensures you don’t miss transitional material that may not be fully covered onscreen. The manga runs significantly further, delivering the complete conclusion of the Jujutsu Kaisen story and even a sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Because the adaptation is so faithful, switching from anime to manga feels natural. You won’t need to reinterpret events or worry about anime-only changes. The continuity remains consistent across formats.
Skip Smart with Jujutsu Kaisen, Not Blindly
If you came here hoping to carve dozens of episodes off your watchlist, you won’t find that opportunity. Jujutsu Kaisen is tightly constructed as an anime with virtually no filler arcs to trim. That’s part of what makes it so compelling.
The only material you can confidently skip are recap specials and compilation films that repackage previously aired episodes. Everything else, from early training arcs to emotionally heavy flashbacks, feeds directly into the larger narrative.

Posts 6In short, don’t treat Jujutsu Kaisen like a sprawling 900-episode saga. It’s a carefully structured story where nearly every scene matters. Skip the recaps, watch the canon, and enjoy one of the most efficiently told action anime of the modern era.
