Jujutsu Kaisen is back and better than ever. Season three of the hit shōnen series is finally here, and it's already looking to take the series to entirely new heights. The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen is bringing back some characters who haven't been in the anime for some time, including one of the strongest characters in the franchise.
Yuta Okkotsu is an absolute powerhouse and someone that Jujutsu Society is going to rely on heavily if it wants to survive what Kenjaku has in store for it. It's great that Yuta is back, but after he helped Rika move on in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, why does he still have Rika with him?

Jujutsu Kaisen has never looked this good, and that's saying something. It's been one of the best modern-day shōnen series since it came out, but season three is taking the franchise to another level. The first two seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen act as the first half of the series, and the third is when it really gets going.
The third season brings back fan favorite characters like Yuta Okkotsu and Yuki Tsukumo, but that's not all: one of the greatest characters in the entire franchise is finally going to get his debut in the anime. It's an exciting time to be a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, and somehow, it's only going to get better from here.
Yuta Okkotsu Is One of the Strongest Characters in the Series

Yuta Okkotsu is one of the most important characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. He's one of the six Special Grade Sorcerers in the series, a grade of Sorcerer that is well and truly above the rest. He has more Cursed Energy than almost every other character in the series, and he knows exactly how to use it.
Yuta also has one of the strongest innate techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen: Copy. Copy allows Yuta to copy the techniques of Sorcerers so long as Rika has consumed part of their bodies. This has given Yuta the ability to use Cursed Speech, making it much stronger than Inumaki's original version.
Satoru Gojo considers Yuta as one of the two characters capable of surpassing him, and it's easy to see why. Even without Rika, Yuta is in a league of his own. With Rika, however, Yuta is nearly unstoppable.
How Does Yuta Still Have Rika After Jujutsu Kaisen 0?
Yuta tells Rika that he loves her, increasing the power of the spirit.
At the end of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Yuta helps Rika finally move on to the afterlife, ending her time as a vengeful spirit. It's a beautiful, moving moment that was cathartic at the time, but now that she's back in Jujutsu Kaisen's third season, it raises a major question: why does Yuta still have Rika?
There are two main reasons as to why Yuta still has Rika even after helping her move on to the afterlife in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The first is that there are, in a way, two versions of Rika. There's the version of Rika that existed as a vengeful spirit/curse, and the version of Rika that exists as a shikigami.
The vengeful spirit version of Rika was hard for Yuta to control, often acted against his will, and existed because Rika never moved on to the afterlife. After the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, this version of Rika was finally able to move on, but her Cursed Spirit was left behind for Yuta.

Rika is one of the strongest Cursed Spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen, and after Jujutsu Kaisen 0, she became a lot stronger.
Yuta Was the Original Protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen
The second reason as to why Rika is still around is a little more meta. It's not a well-known fact, but originally, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 existed as a one-off story. Yuta was the original protagonist of the franchise, and series' creator Gege Akutami has a soft spot for his first ever protagonist.
Because of this, Yuta has kept Rika as a way to maintain his incredible power. He's strong without her, but with Rika, he's easily one of the strongest characters in the entire franchise. It would make sense if Yuta lost Rika after Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but there aren't many who aren't happy to see her comeback in season three of Jujutsu Kaisen.
